NVQ LEVEL 2 - CARPENTRY
Build a strong foundation in carpentry with our NVQ level 2 carpentry courses. These courses offer hands-on training and essential skills, leading to a recognised qualification that sets you on the path to a successful career in carpentry. Ideal for those starting out or looking to formalise their experience in the trade.
THE NVQ HAS NO SET DATES. ONCE REGISTERED YOU WILL BE ENROLLED ON THE SYSTEM WITH COMPLETION TIMES BELOW.
To qualify for this course:
Have a very good understanding of English – Communicate, write & type in English.
At least 12 months experience of 1st & 2nd fix and be able to complete installs on their own.
Working on installs daily.
Have a current CV and must include past & present work history.
Photographic ID – Passport or Driving Licence.
National Insurance Number.
You cannot be taught or coached on your assessments or videos.
What tasks are included before gathering the evidence and during your journey?
Induction with your assessor – approximately 45 minutes to an hour.
Guide to your online portfolio – Quals Direct (you will be sent your username and password).
Complete job knowledge questions – Typed or Written.
Provide evidence via – videos and site assessments with your assessor and your supervisor/manager to be your witness. Your assessor will go through this on your induction.
What kind of evidence you will need to have for your NVQ qualification?
Gather evidence (videos & or site assessment from your assessor) for 2 DIFFERENT PROPERTIES of full installation from start to finish.
Your assessor will go through this on your induction.
This will include (videos and or site assessments with the assessor):
Must be able to get hold of their signed copy of the RISK ASSESSMENT & METHOD STATEMENT and explain the risk assessment.
Explain the MATERIALS, TOOLS & EQUIPMENT and PPE you use.
Install Three 1st Fix
- Frames (door and/or window)
- Linings (door and/or hatch)
- Floor joist coverings (or flat roof decking)
- Partitions
- Staircases
- Roof verge and eaves finishings
Install Five 2nd Fix
- Side hung doors
- Mouldings (architrave & skirting)
- Ironmongery
- Service encasement
- Prefabricated units
- Cladding or panelling
- Stair components (balustrades, handrails, spindles)
How to register?

- Complete the City Training Group Registration Form.
- A copy of your photographic ID (Passport or Driving Licence).
- Once enrolled on the NVQ, your Online portfolio (Quals Direct) and certificate of registration will be set up. You will receive an email from the online platform with your username (your email address) and password.
- Arrange with your Assessor to complete your Induction.
- Complete your knowledge questions.
- Arrange with your Assessor your site assessment.
- The assessor will contact your Manager/Supervisor for a testimony.
- Recorded Professional Discussion with you to confirm your ability and authenticate your portfolio.
Cost
Level 2 – £750 + Vat. If you would like to add an additional pathway, they would be £300 for each added pathway.
Level 3 – £950 + Vat. If you would like to add an additional pathway, they would be £300 for each added pathway.
Time scale of the NVQ?
The NVQ is candidate-led. This will depend on how committed the candidate is and how much work the candidate has lined up. Your Assessor cannot complete you without the evidence.
For level 2, we aim to have the candidate completed in 4 – 8 weeks.
For level 3, we aim to have the candidate completed in 4 – 12/16 weeks.
